Children’s (Paediatric) Oncology Shared Care Service

Dorset County Hospital is a Level 2 A Enhanced Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU). We work closely with our Principal Treatment Centre in University Hospital Shared Care Centre. We provide care closer to home for children and young people with a cancer diagnosis and can deliver some of the treatment locally, this includes bolus chemotherapy.

We run a Chemotherapy Oncology Clinic every Thursday afternoon on our Children’s Ward (Kingfisher). The is led by our Lead Paediatric Consultant and one of our POSCU Lead Nurses.

We also run a Paediatric Oncology Clinic on the fourth Thursday of the month. The clinic facilitates long-term follow-up after treatment is complete and is led by our Lead Paediatric Consultant.

All children and young people undergoing treatment will have direct open access to Kingfisher Ward and continue to do so six months post treatment.

The service is led by:

  • Lead Consultant Paediatrician
  • Deputy Consultant Paediatrician
  • [art time POSCU Lead Nurse
  • Part time POSCU Deputy Nurse
  • Clinical Psychologist.
