Cardiology Department

The Cardiology Department at Dorset County Hospital has well established coronary interventional, devices, arrhythmia and heart failure services. Our department has a strong reputation for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of heart conditions.

Building on its success and in order to meet increasing demands for the department services, further expansion of specialist services has been made to enable optimal care of our cardiac patients in their local hospital.

The Cardiology Department is located on South Wing Level 2. It is on the left on walking in via the South Wing entrance.

If you are unsure of how to find us, staff at the main reception desk, or one of our hospital volunteers will be able to assist you.

We are available Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) between 9am and 5pm.

You can contact us on 01305 255288.

Our services

Cardiac Rhythm Management
The Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) team cares for patients with or suspected of having a variety of heart rhythm problems – arrhythmias. More information is available on the Cardiac Rhythm Management page.

Cardiac Physiology Service
The non-invasive Cardiology Department is managed by a team of highly skilled technicians and physiologists and provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services including electrocardiography (ECG), exercise testing, echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart), and ECG monitoring.

We investigate patients for possible cardiac conditions and monitor patients with ongoing cardiac conditions.

We also host pacemaker and defibrillator follow up clinics at the Dorset County Hospital. These clinics provide regular checks for patients with these devices to ensure their correct functioning with battery checks and problem solving when required.

The physiologists work closely with the outpatient and inpatient services and patients may have a number of tests done to form part of their assessment or clinic review.

For all ECG, ECG monitoring, exercise testing, pacemaker/devices clinics and echocardiography enquiries at DCH please contact the Cardiology Department on 01305 251150.
