Medical Day Unit
The Medical Day Unit is based on South Wing Level 0.
The unit administers a vast array of biological drug therapies to treat numerous conditions such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoporosis, iron deficiency anaemia, asthma and renal issues.
We also undertake dynamic blood tests for the endocrinology consultants.
We support our Interventional Radiology Department preparing and observing those attending for biopsies of the liver, lungs, kidney, and others as required.
We also prepare, support and observe patients attending intervention radiology for the insertion of tunnelled lines, portacaths and PICC lines.
We administer blood and platelets as requested by our haematology, medical and renal consultants, community GPs and our Chemotherapy Unit.
We also provide a venesection service for the haematology and gastroenterology teams.
The unit also provides the administration of intravenous electrolyte replacement therapy.
We are happy to work in partnership with our clinicians to facilitate treatments for patients that do not require an overnight stay.
The unit is open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm.
