Abbotsbury Surgical Short Stay Unit

Abbotsbury Ward is a 28-bed ward covering a range of specialities including women's health, surgical, urology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology as well as other specialities such as orthopaedic trauma.

It is located in North Wing Level 2 and is a busy ward taking admissions day and night from the Emergency Department, theatres, GPs, clinics and other wards.

Whilst some patients will be relatively well and independent, others will be acutely unwell, may be suffering the sad loss of a baby, will be diagnosed with life-threatening conditions , whilst some may be dying.

With so many different specialities, we have several different teams of doctors in the ward and many diagnostic tests being conducted.
