Paediatric Allergy Service
Paediatric Allergy Clinic
Our paediatric allergy clinic offers a full allergy evaluation for children and young people aged 0-18yrs.
We see children/young people with singular or multiple allergies and aim to give them a full allergy assessment in a one-stop clinic. This will include assessment from a doctor or allergy specialist nurse, allergy testing, review with a dietitian and training with adrenaline devices if required.
Referrals
We accept referrals from Consultants or GPs across West Dorset.
Your child might come to allergy clinic because of:
- A food allergy (IgE-mediated (immediate type) only unless multiple non IgE (delayed type) or having an impact on growth)
- Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)
- Oral allergy syndrome
- Venom allergy
- Drug allergy
- Allergy-related skin disorders, such as eczema, urticaria and angioedema (hives and swelling), and hayfever (allergic rhinitis).
We look after children/young people with allergies throughout their childhood as they grow and their immune system matures, and we provide support to their families through these changes until the child is ready to transition and move to adult services.
Allergy testing
We provide skin prick testing which involves putting a droplet of liquid on your child’s skin which contains the allergen of the substance they may be allergic to, and then introducing this under the skin with a small prick.
We also carry out food challenges where required, to aid with diagnosis or to see if your child has grown out of a previously diagnosed allergy.
