Moviprep – Extended (Three Doses / Six Sachets) for Afternoon Appointment
This information is for an afternoon appointment.
You will need to follow a five day ‘low residue diet’ with no nuts or seeds as this can cause blockages within the scope, resulting in return visit with further preparation required. A list of ‘allowed foods’ can be found below. Please use this list for all your meals before colonoscopy.
You will also be required to consume ‘clear fluids’ only. A list of can be found below. Please aim to drink at least 2.5 litres (4 pints) daily for the five days before taking Moviprep bowel preparation, to prevent you becoming unwell when taking bowel preparation due to hydration.
Day before procedure
You may have a low fibre breakfast to finish prior to 9am. Please drink extra volumes of clear fluids.
Please have a low fibre lunch between 12pm and 1.30pm. Please drink extra volumes of clear fluids.
PLEASE DO NOT EAT ANY FOOD FROM THIS POINT
Please have the first dose of Moviprep between 4pm and 5pm Empty 1A and 1B sachet in glass, make up with 1 litre (1 3/4 pints) of cold water and stir until dissolved. Aim to drink one glass every 15 minutes until solution finished, ice can be added if preferred.
Aim to drink extra 500mls (1 pint) clear fluids before next dose.
Please have the second dose of Moviprep between 7pm and 8pm – make up as per instructions above.
Please aim to drink at least 500ml (1 pint) before going to bed.
Day of procedure
Please have the third dose of Moviprep between 8am and 9am – made up as per instructions.
Please drink extra volumes of clear fluids (minimum of 500mls/1 pint) until your procedure to maintain a good level of hydration, stopping all fluids two hours before procedure arrival time.
Low residue / low fibre foods you are allowed
- White meat, skinless chicken, grilled or poached fish
- White bread, rice, pasta, boiled or mashed potatoes
- Cheese, eggs, tofu, butter/margarine
- Ice cream, custard
- Shredless marmalade or jam
- Clear soups/meat extract drinks e.g. Bovril.
High fibre foods which should be avoided
- Red meat, sausages, pies
- Wholemeal pasta, brown rice, wholemeal bread
- Vegetables, fruit or salad
- Potato skins or chips
- Cakes, biscuits, puddings containing fruit or nuts, yoghurts
- Nuts, seeds and pulses including baked beans.
Please note: nuts and seeds should be avoided as they can block up the procedure equipment which could lead to your procedure being abandoned.
Clear fluids
- Water
- Diluted cordials- not Blackcurrant
- Herbal teas
- Black tea, black coffee
- Clear soups/meat extracts drinks eg. Bovril
- Clear fruit juice (without pulp)
- Fizzy drinks including Lucozade but not Cola/Blackcurrant flavoured /coloured.
Hints and tips
- You may drink the preparation through a straw – it may be more palatable
- You may add a light-coloured cordial to it to alter the flavour if desired.
