Decisions About Your Care and Treatment
Although we make choices and decisions every day, sometimes we need more support for difficult decisions. Some people because they have complex needs may not ever be able to make decisions for themselves.
The Mental Capacity Act says that we must help people make their own decisions wherever possible. When you come into hospital you may have to make decisions about the care and treatment being offered to you. This may be things like:
- whether to have tests and investigations to find out what is wrong
- the type of treatment you may need
- changes you may need to make to the way you live to help you be healthier
