Fluoroscopy

The department uses fluoroscopic x-ray examinations to look dynamically at the body in health and disease.

Examinations performed include assessments of swallowing (performed alongside our colleagues in speech therapy), salivary gland problems, small bowel abnormalities, bladder abnormalities and fertility problems.

We also perform specialised examinations of the joints – arthrography – in combination with MRI scanning.

Some patients will need an injection of X-ray dye (we call it ‘contrast’) into a vein in the arm. Further information about the use of contrast media in CT scanning is available here.
