Learning Disability and Autism Advocates
Updated 27 February 2024
There are Learning Disability and Autism Advocates on many different wards and departments across the hospital.
They are staff who have personal experience with or are passionate about making sure people get the right support when coming into hospital.
Being a Learning Disability and Autism Advocate means:
- They help to make reasonable adjustments for people needing care in hospital
- They support and listen to individuals and carers
- They support people to communicate using tools such as the hospital communication pack. This is a communication aid with pictures and symbols and is available on all wards within the hospital
- They work with the Learning Disability and Mental Capacity Act Lead, Learning Disability and Autism Acute Health Facilitator, Community groups and Community colleagues to raise awareness of health issues and reduce barriers in accessing hospital care.
