Physiotherapy – Inpatients
The inpatient physiotherapy team provides treatment to patients who are admitted to hospital and require our assessment and care. The inpatient service aims to rehabilitate patients within the hospital setting to achieve the best recovery possible. This includes the treatment of patients with respiratory, neurological and orthopaedic problems.
Neurological Physiotherapy
What is Neurological Physiotherapy?
This is a specialised branch of physiotherapy that assess and treats people who have a neurological condition resulting from damage to their brain, spinal cord or nerves ie stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, MND, functional neurological disorder, peripheral neuropathy.
We provide a service to both in patients (stroke unit and the medical wards), and outpatients in West Dorset.
We aim to maximise your potential to carry out day to day tasks in the most qualitative way. We also provide education and can liaise with other services.
What do we do?
All patients undergo a specialist assessment.
This looks at range of movement, muscle power, muscle control, sensation and proprioception, tightness, shortening, posture, balance and mobility.
From this we will draw up a problem list, treatment plan and set goals.
